About Kayra Ayar
Founder
A sophomore at Torrey Pines high school in San Diego, Kayra is a competitive volleyball player and socially conscious student. Kayra has been playing volleyball at the famed Coast Volleyball club in San Diego since the age of 10. In 2022 school year, she played for junior varsity team of the legendary Torrey Pines volleyball program. Kayra's parents are immigrants from Turkiye (Turkey). Due to her parents' immigrant background and her travels to their home country, Kayra has become acutely aware of young girls' struggles in rural, conservative countryside. She firmly believes volleyball can help these girls to become free, strong women and be the champions of women’s rights and freedoms. Kayra also believes playing volleyball will help them with their mental health. Therefore, she has started the EmpoweringgirlsviaVolleyball non-profit organization with sole purpose of helping create opportunities to play volleyball that will serve as a bridge to the westernized part of Turkiye, embodied by the National Women’s Volleyball team.
